Susanna Wesley Circle
All are invited to a luncheon in the fellowship hall following the second service on Sunday, October 2. The ladies of the Mae Howard Circle are sponsoring a luncheon that will include a variety of delicious dishes. There is no set price for the meal, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will help pay for new furniture for our newly refurbished church parlor. We hope to see you there!
Information Session on the Future of the UMC
A called meeting of the Church Council was held on September 18 to discuss the pros and cons of disaffiliation from the United Methodist Church. Although the Church Council voted not to begin the disaffiliation process at this time, and that vote will stand, the District Superintendent has agreed that it would be beneficial to take time with the congregation to get more information about the process. District Superintendent David Christy will come to Rehobeth on Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. for an informational session. He will lead us is a discussion of the disaffiliation process, answer any questions he is able to answer, and will bring information for those attending to take home and read. No voting will take place at this meeting. We hope you will come and learn more about the future of the United Methodist Church.
ColeStrong Golf Tournament
The 11th annual ColeStrong Golf Tournament, sponsored by Rehobeth’s Pairs & Spares adult Sunday School class, will take place on Monday, October 10, at Glen Oaks Golf Club. If you are interested in playing in the tournament or becoming a sponsor, please pick up a form in either the narthex or the fellowship hall. Proceeds from the tournament are divided between the American Cancer Society and to benefit local folks who are going through cancer treatment. So come out, enjoy some golf, and support this worthy cause!
FunTimers Meet for Cards and Lunch
The FunTimers will meet on Wednesday, October 12, and Wednesday, October 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center. Come join us for card games and lunch!
Mae Howard Circle
The Mae Howard Circle will meet on Monday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. All ladies are cordially invited.
Trunk or Treat
Rehobeth will host “Trunk or Treat” for the community on Sunday, October 23, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This year, Trunk or Treat will be held in the parking lot of the Family Life Center. The youth will be sponsoring free hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the food.
We also need lots of volunteers to decorate their vehicle trunks or truck beds for the event. This year, the Children’s Council is asking that all trunks be decorated with a Bible story theme (e.g., Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit, Jonah and the big fish, the Empty Tomb) or a Christian message displayed (e.g., “It’s so sweet to love Jesus”). Google and Pinterest have lots of fun ideas if you need inspiration. There are sign-up sheets in the narthex and the fellowship hall if you would like to help serve food and/or decorate trunks. Please come be a part of this fun event!
The FunTimers are headed to West Jefferson on Tuesday, October 25. We will meet at the church at 8:30 a.m. and caravan up to West Jefferson. This trip will be during peak fall leaf foliage so we will be taking a trip to Mt. Jefferson State Natural Area to see the colorful fall leaves. We will also go to the Cheese Factory and downtown West Jefferson, where we will have lunch. Please sign the list in either the narthex or the fellowship hall if you plan to attend!
Looking Ahead to the Barbecue!
Remember, the “World Famous” Rehobeth Barbecue will take place on Saturday, November 12. It will be similar to last year’s event in that it will be “Take-Out” only and will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Plates are $12 each and include barbecue, slaw, baked beans, pickles, roll, and dessert. Barbecue sandwiches are $6 each, and you may get them with or without slaw. Help spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
Note: We need lots of donations of homemade desserts, such as unfrosted pound cakes, dessert bars, and cookies. So please be thinking about which of these items you can bake!
