Mission & Ministry Opportunities
Cards for Our Troops – Make a New Year's Resolution to write a card or two each week this year for our wounded troops in Afghanistan and active troops in Kuwait. Let the men and women in the military hospital in Afghanistan and military base in Kuwait know how much you appreciate their service. Indicate on the envelope what type of card is enclosed ("Get Well," "Thank You," or "Thinking of You"). Remember, to comply with military security requirements, do not include your return address. Place your cards in the red, white, and blue box located in the narthex. Thank you for supporting our troops!
Lenten Coin Folders - Pick up your Lenten coin folder today! As has been our custom, we will use the money from these folders to support a special mission project. This year, all donations will support the "Kids in Need" fund. "Kids in Need," which is operated by volunteers through the Catawba County Health Department, serves school children who "fall through the cracks" and who have special needs such as small surgeries or eye, hearing, or dental needs. School counselors are the referral source.
To fill your folder, you may deposit a quarter in each slot, or simply place a check or bill in the folder. (Checks should be made payable to Rehobeth UMC, with Lenten Offering written on the memo line.) You will be able to place your filled folder on the altar during worship service on Easter Sunday.
Serving at The Corner Table - Rehobeth will be serving lunch at The Corner Table, a soup kitchen in Newton. We need 10 to 12 volunteers to serve the meal at The Corner Table on Thursday, April 2, between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. If you are able to help, please contact the church office.
Backpacks for Kids Program - During the month of April, the Mae Howard Circle is sponsoring a special food drive to support "Backpacks for Kids" at Catawba Elementary School. This program helps children in need by supplying them with extra food over the weekends. Please bring in food items that are easy for children to take home in their backpacks and prepare at home. Suggestions include peanut butter crackers, granola bars, single-serving fruit cups, soups, ramen noodles, instant oatmeal or grits, beef-a-roni, spaghetti-o's, etc. Place your items in the container in the narthex. Thank you for your support!
Help Us Make Our Blooming Cross - As is our tradition, we will have a Blooming Cross as part of our Easter worship experience. Please bring fresh-cut flowers from your yard, garden, or flowering trees and place the on the cross in the narthex Easter morning. It's a beautiful symbol of Jesus' resurrection from the dead and the life he brings to our hearts through His Holy Spirit.
"Give Away for Good" – Start your spring cleaning and donate any items you no longer need to our "Give Away for Good" event (formerly known as the "Garage Giveaway"). The "Give Away for Good" event will be held in April, but you will have several opportunities to drop off items at the Connor Recreation Center. If your items are too big for you to bring, please sign the list in the narthex and our United Methodist Men will pick them up from your home.
The dates to drop-off items at the Connor Recreation Center are:
Holy Week Schedule - Make note of the special services and events that will mark Holy Week, including our Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Tenebrae services, prayer vigil, Easter Egg hunt, and Easter celebrations.
Fifth Sunday Celebration - Join us for our next "Fifth Sunday" celebration, which will be held on Sunday, March 29, at 9:45 AM in the fellowship hall. The theme is "Redemption: God's Grace, Our Salvation." Fifth Sunday is a cross-generational time of fellowship and celebration. We hope to see you there!
Blood Drive - Help save lives! A blood drive will be held at Rehobeth Church on Monday, March 30, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall. Anyone who can give blood is welcome.
