Mission & Ministry Opportunities
Celebrating 10 Years – Rehobeth's card ministry to our troops in Afghanistan and Kuwait is 10 years old! Thanks to everyone who has supported our troops through this program. Make a commitment to write a card or two each week this year for our wounded troops in Afghanistan and active troops in Kuwait. Let the men and women in the military hospital in Afghanistan and military base in Kuwait know how much you appreciate their service. Indicate on the envelope what type of card is enclosed ("Get Well," "Thank You," or "Thinking of You"). Remember, to comply with military security requirements, do not include your return address. Place your cards in the red, white, and blue box located in the narthex. Thank you for supporting our troops!
Donate to the Backpacks for Kids Program - During the month of February, the Mae Howard Circle is sponsoring a special food drive to support “Backpacks for Kids” at Catawba Elementary School. This program helps children in need by supplying them with extra food over the weekends. We are asking the entire congregation to participate by bringing certain food items that will be easy for children to take home in their backpacks. These might include peanut butter crackers, granola bars, single-serving fruit cups/apple sauce, soups, ramen noodles, instant oatmeal or grits, beef-a-roni, spaghetti-o’s, etc. These items may be placed in the container in the narthex. Thank you for your support!
King's Daughters Prom Closet - FLY Youth’s next Gabriel’s Heroes mission project is The King’s Daughters Prom Closet. It will open the weekend of February 6 downstairs in our youth room. It will be open every other Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM and by appointment. If you would be interested in working the store, see Natalie to sign up for a time to volunteer in the store.
Income Tax Preparation Time Is Coming - If you need a record of how much you contributed to Rehobeth Church in 2015, please sign the list in the church office. If you signed the list last week, your statement is ready and may be picked up in the church office.
Friends from Broughton Are Coming to Rehobeth - Rehobeth will be hosting a covered dish luncheon for our friends from Broughton Hospital on Thursday, February 18. The group will arrive around 11:30 AM and be staying until about 1:00 PM. Lots of volunteers are needed to help with serving the lunch and conducting Bingo games. You won’t want to miss out on the fun! Even if you can’t come to the luncheon that day, your donations of food and game prizes are needed. Food may be dropped by the fellowship hall that morning. If you have game prizes to donate, you may bring them that day or drop them by the church office any time. We can use Bingo prizes for both men and women. Some ideas would be socks, T-shirts, costume jewelry (no pins), toiletry items such as lotions, etc. Please do NOT gift wrap the prizes. (No glass or sharp items such as pens, pencils, or spiral notebooks please.)
Come Learn to Play Pickle-Ball - Do you want to learn a fun sport that anyone of any age can play? Then come to the Pickle Ball Clinic on Mondays, February 22 through March 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Connor Recreation Center. Pickle Ball is a cross between ping-pong and tennis, but played with a type of wiffle ball. If you would like to learn how to play, sign up in the narthex.
Additionally, any church group—Sunday School classes, youth, circles, UMM—is welcome to use the pickle-ball equipment. Contact the church office for details.
Lenten Coin Folders Available - Be sure to pick up your Lenten Coin Folder from the table in the narthex. You may deposit a quarter in each slot in the folder or simply place a check or bill in the folder. (Checks may be made out to “Rehobeth UMC” and in the memo line, write “Lenten Offering.”) It has been our custom at Rehobeth to use the funds from the Lenten Coin Folders to support a special mission project. This year the Missions Committee has designated the Lenten coin offering to help fund the Rehobeth youth summer mission trip to Virginia Beach. You will have the opportunity on Easter Sunday to place your folder on the altar during the service.
"Soup-er Bowl" Luncheon - You won’t want to miss out on this delicious Soup Luncheon sponsored by the Mae Howard Circle! The luncheon will take place at 12:00 noon on Sunday, February ,7 in the fellowship hall. The menu will include a variety of homemade soups, baked potatoes, bread, and dessert. There is no set price, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to benefit the mission projects of the Mae Howard Circle.

All confirmands will participate in a weekend Confirmation Retreat at Lake Junaluska March 4-6. Please notify Natalie by February 14 if you would like to be a part of this class.
